The Library of Congress classification system is used at Scholes Library to catalog its collections. The LC call number is needed to locate a book at Scholes.
Example - Finding a Book
For the book, Ceramics of Picasso by Georges Ramie, the LC call number in the online catalog is:

On the book, the LC call number is vertical.

General Collection books and journals locations
- Art & Design floor call numbers that begin with the letters “A” through “P”
- Engineering & Science floor call numbers that begin with the letters “Q” through “Z”
Oversize books are shelved in LC order after general collection books.
On the ends of bookshelves, cards list the call number range for each side of shelves.
Other Book Collections
Reference Collection books beginning with “Ref” are shelved in the Reference Room on the 1st floor. Reference books are for use in the library only.
Reserve Collection books shelved behind the Circulation/Reserves Desk are for use in the library only and must be checked out.
